This modern museum on Recife's revitalised waterfront celebrates the culture of the Brazilian sertão, the semi-arid backlands of the northeast, and its most famous musician Luiz Gonzaga. Interactive galleries let visitors handle instruments, dance to forró and explore the history, crafts and daily life of the interior. Housed in a converted warehouse in the port district, it forms part of a technology-and-culture hub. Multimedia rooms give a lively, participatory portrait of the region's identity.
