This urban lake in central Salvador is famous for the towering sculptures of Afro-Brazilian orixá deities that appear to rise from the water on floating platforms. Created by the artist Tatti Moreno, the eight large figures represent Candomblé gods and are dramatically lit at night. A walkway and gardens ring the lake, which also borders a football stadium and busy avenues. The combination of religious art, greenery and reflection has made it a symbol of the city's deep Afro-Brazilian cultural identity and a favourite evening stroll.
