This large artificial lake was created in the late 1950s by damming the Paranoá River to raise humidity and provide a scenic setting for the new capital. Its winding shoreline wraps around the city, framing landmarks such as the presidential residence and hosting sailing clubs, waterfront restaurants and open-air promenades. Sunset over the water, with the flat cerrado horizon beyond, is a popular gathering moment for residents. Kayaking, stand-up paddling and lakeside walking paths make it a favourite outdoor escape from the monumental centre.
