The twin baroque towers of this Anglican cathedral dominate the skyline of St. John's, the capital of Antigua. The present stone building was completed in 1848 after earlier churches were destroyed by earthquakes, and its interior is lined with pitch pine intended to protect it from tremors and hurricanes. Figures of St. John the Baptist and St. John the Divine stand at the south gate, reputedly seized from a French ship. The elevated site makes the towers a landmark from across the town and harbour.
