Facing the cathedral in the capital's historic core, this neoclassical palace once housed the country's government offices and legislature. Built between 1905 and 1911 using imported marble and European materials, it encloses a colonnaded central courtyard around four principal halls painted red, blue, yellow and pink. Now a museum and national monument, it displays period furnishings and hosts cultural events. Its restoration is part of a wider revival of San Salvador's colonial-era downtown.
