Occupying the former orchard of the Santo Domingo monastery, this garden gathers the native plants of Oaxaca within the high stone walls of the historic complex. Its collection emphasises the deep relationship between the region's peoples and their flora, from the agaves that yield mezcal to the cochineal-hosting cacti and the many species used in food, medicine and dye. Guided walks trace these connections along carefully designed paths. The garden's setting against the ochre monastery walls makes it as much a work of design as of botany.
