The seat of the Michoacán state government occupies a former seminary of the eighteenth century in the heart of Morelia, built in the same rosy stone that characterises the city. Its baroque courtyard and staircase are covered in vivid murals painted in the twentieth century that portray the region's history and its heroes of independence. The building faces the cathedral across the main avenue and stands among the most important civic monuments of the historic centre, blending colonial architecture with modern political art.
