On the campus in Canyon, near Amarillo, this is the largest history museum in Texas, tracing the story of the Panhandle-Plains region from dinosaurs and Indigenous peoples to ranching, oil, and pioneer settlement. Galleries display a recreated frontier town, an extensive collection of firearms and saddles, petroleum-industry exhibits, and Southwestern art. Housed in a 1930s Art Deco building, it holds paleontology specimens from the surrounding badlands.
