Idaho's capitol in Boise is notable for being geothermally heated, drawing hot water from underground springs to warm the building. Completed in 1920 in a Neoclassical style using local sandstone and imported marble, it is crowned by a copper dome topped with a gilded eagle. A recent restoration and underground expansion added natural light to the wings. Inside, the rotunda rises through several stories to the dome, and free self-guided tours explain the geology, art, and political history.
