A block from the state capitol, this Greek Revival house has served as the official residence of Texas governors since 1856, making it one of the oldest continuously occupied governor's mansions in the United States. Tall Ionic columns front a shaded veranda, and inside are period furnishings and historical portraits. The house survived a 2008 arson attack during a restoration and was carefully rebuilt. Free guided tours, arranged in advance, cover its architecture, the families who lived there, and objects tied to figures like Sam Houston.
