Regarded as one of the finest colonial Georgian houses in America, this brick mansion in Annapolis was designed in 1774 by architect William Buckland. Its elegant proportions and elaborately carved doorway, a masterpiece of American woodwork, make it a touchstone of eighteenth-century design. Built for a wealthy tobacco planter, the house has never been substantially altered and today serves as a museum furnished with period antiques and paintings.
