The capitol of New Jersey in Trenton is the second-oldest continuously used statehouse in the country, with portions dating to 1792. Repeatedly expanded and rebuilt after a fire in 1885, it presents a French Renaissance facade along the Delaware River, capped by a gilded dome. Restored legislative chambers, the governor's reception room, and rotunda display the layered history of a building that grew piecemeal over two centuries. Free tours interpret the state's role in the Revolution.
