Fogo Natural Park encompasses the towering volcano that dominates the island of Fogo in southern Cape Verde. At its heart lies a vast collapsed caldera enclosing the active cone of Pico do Fogo, whose eruptions have repeatedly reshaped the landscape and buried villages in black lava. Farmers cultivate vines and coffee in the ash-rich soil of the crater floor, producing distinctive local wine. Trails lead across the lunar terrain to the summit, offering hikers extraordinary views over the caldera walls and surrounding islands.
