Lake Dziani Boundouni is a crater lake occupying an old volcanic caldera on the island of Mohéli, the smallest of the Comoros. Its still, greenish waters fill a forested depression and are ringed by dense vegetation alive with birds and fruit bats. The lake holds cultural significance for nearby communities and is protected within a wider conservation area. Reached by a walk through the island's interior, it offers a tranquil contrast to Mohéli's celebrated beaches and gives visitors a sense of the volcanic origins of the archipelago.
