The Blue Penny Museum on the Caudan waterfront in Port Louis is devoted to the maritime, artistic and postal history of Mauritius. Its centrepiece is a pair of the celebrated 1847 Post Office stamps, among the rarest in the world, displayed under carefully dimmed light. Beyond philately, the galleries chart early navigation charts, colonial art and the island's cultural evolution. Compact and thoughtfully arranged, the museum offers a refined counterpoint to the busy harbourside shopping district, drawing collectors from around the globe.
