Perched on the forested slopes of Mount Entoto above the capital, this octagonal Orthodox church was founded by Emperor Menelik II in the 1880s, when Entoto briefly served as his capital before he descended to found Addis Ababa. It was here that Menelik was crowned emperor. An adjacent museum displays imperial gifts, robes and religious artefacts from the period. The site offers sweeping views over the city and remains an important pilgrimage destination for Ethiopian Orthodox believers.
