The principal Catholic cathedral of Bujumbura is one of the largest churches in the region and a central place of worship in Burundi's largest city. Its long nave and twin towers make it a landmark near the heart of the lakeside capital. As the seat of the archdiocese, it draws large congregations and hosts major religious ceremonies. Burundi's strong Catholic heritage gives the cathedral both spiritual and civic importance, and its prominent architecture stands among the notable colonial-era and modern buildings of the city centre.
