The Torre de la Libertad, or Freedom Tower, is a modern landmark on the seafront of Bata, the main city on the mainland of Equatorial Guinea. Rising above the coastal promenade, the tower serves as a symbol of the country's development ambitions and offers a viewpoint over the Gulf of Guinea. Built during the era of oil-funded construction, it has become an emblem of the growing city. Its distinctive form and waterfront setting make it a focal point of Bata's modernised shoreline and a recognisable feature of the mainland capital.
