Fort Apollonia is a compact British-built fort on the far western coast of Ghana at Beyin, constructed in the eighteenth century as part of the network of trading posts along the Gold Coast. Its stone bastions overlook the Atlantic near the approach to the stilt village of Nzulezu. The fort now houses a museum of Nzema culture, interpreting the history and traditions of the local people alongside the story of coastal trade. As one of the many forts that earned the coastline UNESCO recognition, it offers a quieter window onto colonial history.
