This fortified granary in southern Tunisia is a fine example of the ksour built by Berber communities to store and protect their grain. Tiers of vaulted chambers, known as ghorfas, are stacked around courtyards, their small doorways opening onto a honeycomb of storage cells. Raised on rising ground, the structure once served as both storehouse and refuge for the surrounding villages. Its earthen architecture and dramatic silhouette have made it a favourite among photographers exploring the ksour country around Medenine and Tataouine.
