In the coastal village of Lamta, the ancient Leptiminus, stands a small fortified monastery of the type that once studded the Tunisian shore against seaborne raids. A modest local museum nearby gathers Roman and Byzantine finds from the surrounding archaeological site, including mosaics and funerary objects. The ribat's plain stone walls and tower recall the defensive network that linked Monastir and Sousse. Away from the main routes, Lamta offers a quiet look at both the Islamic frontier and the classical Sahel.
