On the island of Djerba stands one of the oldest synagogues in North Africa, a whitewashed sanctuary that has drawn Jewish pilgrims for centuries. Its interior glows with tiled walls, hanging lamps and richly carved wood, and it is said to shelter ancient sacred remnants. Each spring a major pilgrimage brings visitors from across the Mediterranean to the site. Set in the quiet village of Hara Sghira, El Ghriba is a living testament to the long presence of a Jewish community on the island and a place of deep religious significance.
