One of the finest concentrations of deer stones in Mongolia, this Bronze Age ceremonial site near Mörön features tall standing stones carved with stylised flying deer, sun and moon symbols, weapons and belts. Erected some three thousand years ago in association with burial mounds and ritual altars, the monoliths are thought to commemorate warriors and mark sacred ground. Several of the best-preserved examples remain in situ on the open steppe, their engravings still clearly legible.
