The National Museum of Iran is the country's foremost institution of archaeology and history, in a brick building of the 1930s that echoes Sassanid palace design. Its galleries trace settlement on the Iranian plateau across tens of thousands of years, from Paleolithic tools and Elamite bronzes to reliefs carried from Persepolis. Visitors study cuneiform tablets, glazed brickwork, and the salt-preserved remains of ancient miners. The bronze statue of a Parthian nobleman is among its most noted objects.
