The Chapel of Saint Paul, also known as Bab Kisan, marks the traditional site where, according to the New Testament, the apostle Paul was lowered in a basket through the city wall to escape his pursuers. The old Roman gateway was walled up and converted into a Christian memorial, and today it houses a small chapel and a modest museum. Located in the southeastern corner of the old city, it is an important pilgrimage stop for Christians visiting Damascus. Its rough stone façade preserves the outline of the ancient gate.
