The archaeological remains of the ancient city of Armazi on a hill opposite Mtskheta in central Georgia, once a royal residence and religious centre of the early Iberian kingdom. Excavations here have uncovered fortifications, a palace, baths and a bridge, along with rich burials of the local nobility that yielded fine goldwork now in the national museum. The site was a centre of pagan worship before the Christianisation of Georgia. Set above the confluence of two rivers, it offers insight into the country's antiquity and views over Mtskheta.
