A medieval monastery complex spread across a mountainside in the Vayots Dzor region of southern Armenia, its churches dating from the 10th and 11th centuries. The site is divided into two groups of buildings, with carved crosses, inscriptions and finely worked masonry surviving among the ruins. Once a significant religious centre, it fell into decline over the centuries. Its scattered churches, set against sweeping highland scenery, make it a rewarding destination for hikers and history-minded travellers.
