A memorial square in Bishkek commemorating those who fell in the Second World War, centred on a large monument of three curving arches representing the poles of a nomadic yurt. Beneath the arches burns an eternal flame guarded on ceremonial occasions, and a bronze figure of a waiting woman stands at the centre. Laid out to mark the fortieth anniversary of victory, it is a focal point for remembrance ceremonies. The open plaza and surrounding gardens also serve as an everyday gathering space.
