The pair of curving sandy bays flanking the headland at the eastern edge of Dili are among the most popular coastal spots near the capital, reached by a scenic road along the shore. Backed by hills crowned with a towering statue of Christ, the beaches offer calm swimming, snorkelling over nearby reefs, and views across the strait. Fishing boats draw up on the sand, and stalls sell grilled seafood to weekend visitors. The combination of beach, hillside pilgrimage steps, and sea views makes it a favoured retreat from the city.
