The largest Catholic cathedral in the country, this red-brick Neo-Gothic church in the former capital was completed in the early twentieth century and is a prominent landmark of the colonial-era downtown. Its twin spires, pointed arches, ribbed vaults and stained-glass windows reflect the ambitions of the missionary community that built it. The spacious interior, with its tall nave and rows of columns, remains an active place of worship and one of the finest surviving examples of ecclesiastical architecture.
