Dungtse Lhakhang is an unusual chorten-shaped temple in the Paro valley, built in the fifteenth century by the bridge-building saint Thangtong Gyalpo and rising in three tiers that represent hell, earth and heaven. Its interior is celebrated for a remarkable sequence of murals depicting the progression of tantric Buddhist deities, considered among the finest in the country and normally kept dim to protect them. The chapel is entered by permission and viewed by lamplight. Standing apart in open fields, its round white form is distinctive.
