Marpha is a whitewashed village in the lower Mustang region, known for its tight flagstone lanes, flat-roofed Thakali houses and orchards that supply the area's famous apple products. Set in the arid rain shadow of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massifs, it sits on the old salt-trade route along the Kali Gandaki. A hilltop monastery overlooks the village, and distilleries draw on the apple harvest. Trekkers on the Jomsom route pass through and often stay overnight.
