Koneswaram Temple

Perched dramatically on Swami Rock above the sea at Trincomalee, this ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva overlooks the natural harbour from a sheer cliff. A revered pilgrimage site with roots reaching back many centuries, the colourful temple was destroyed during the colonial period and later rebuilt, its towers now standing against the ocean backdrop.
