On the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, the beaches around Kosgoda are an important nesting ground for sea turtles, and several conservation hatcheries here protect eggs and release hatchlings. Visitors can see tanks of newly hatched turtles, learn about the threats facing the species, and in season witness nighttime nesting or dawn releases. The projects combine tourism with conservation efforts to safeguard populations along a heavily developed shore.
