This early-twentieth-century bank building on Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street is among the most striking examples of the neo-Russian style in Nizhny Novgorod, resembling a fairy-tale palace more than a financial office. Raised to mark the tercentenary of the Romanov dynasty, it combines tent roofs, decorated portals and murals by prominent artists. The richly painted interiors, occasionally opened for tours, feature vaulted halls and folkloric ornament. It remains a functioning branch of the central bank.
