Nizhny Novgorod Fair

The main building of the historic trade fair of Nizhny Novgorod recalls an era when the city hosted the greatest commercial gathering in the Russian Empire, drawing merchants from across Europe and Asia. Established in the early nineteenth century after moving from Makaryev, the fair made the city a crossroads of trade. The surviving nineteenth-century exhibition hall now stages conventions and displays on the fair's history. With associated cathedrals nearby, it marks the mercantile golden age on the low bank.
