One of the oldest stone buildings in Novosibirsk, this Orthodox cathedral was among the first major structures raised in the settlement that grew around the Trans-Siberian Railway crossing of the Ob River. Completed at the turn of the twentieth century in a Byzantine revival style, it has a compact cross-domed plan crowned by a single large cupola. It stands near the start of the main avenue and was restored after Soviet-era closure. The red-brick church remains active and marks the historic origins of the young metropolis.
