One of the largest zoos in Russia, this institution in the Siberian city of Novosibirsk is internationally noted for its breeding programmes for rare felines, including snow leopards and the small wildcat known as the manul. Spread across a wooded site, it houses several hundred species, with particular strength in animals adapted to cold climates. It gained wider fame for its liger cubs, hybrids born at the zoo. Landscaped paths, a small railway and family facilities make it a leading day-out destination year-round.
