Perched on the fortified slope of Saint John's Hill above Kotor, this small church stands roughly halfway along the steep zigzag path climbing to the fortress at the summit. Built in the 15th and 16th centuries, it was raised as a votive offering against the plague that periodically struck the town. Its modest stone form offers a resting point for those making the arduous ascent along the defensive walls. From its terrace a sweeping view opens over the terracotta roofs of the old town and across the deep waters of the bay below.

Where next?

The world is wide open.
