The Roman Thermae of Odessos in Varna are the largest surviving Roman baths in Bulgaria and among the biggest in the Balkans, built in the second century. Massive brick walls, arches, and the remains of heated rooms, cold pools, and dressing halls cover a large area in the old part of the city. Visitors follow raised walkways through the ruins, reading how bathers moved between the hot, warm, and cold chambers. The scale of the complex reflects the prosperity of the ancient Greek and Roman port on the Black Sea coast.
