The Elizabeth Lookout crowns Janos Hill, the highest point within Budapest, in the wooded Buda Hills west of the city. Built in 1910 in a Neo-Romanesque style and named for the popular Empress Elisabeth, the white stone tower rises in tiers of arched galleries to a viewing platform. From the top, an expansive panorama stretches over the whole city, the Danube, and the surrounding hills. The hill is reached by walking trails, a chairlift, and the city's charming Children's Railway, making the lookout a favourite for weekend excursions.
