The Leaning Tower is a medieval brick tower set into the old defensive walls of Toruń, noticeably tilted from the vertical. Built in the 14th century, its lean is usually attributed to subsidence of the sandy riverbank soil, though local legend ties it to a knight's penance. Visitors traditionally test their balance by standing with heels and back against the wall, a challenge tied to a folk tale of guilt and innocence. Part of the well-preserved Gothic townscape, the tower is a favourite curiosity within the walled old city.
