Cultural Landscape of the Serra de Tramuntana

Dry-stone terraces climb the flanks of the Serra de Tramuntana, the sheer range walling Mallorca's northwest coast, where generations of farmers coaxed olives and crops from scarce soil and scarcer water. Their answer was an intricate web of channels, water mills and holding tanks tied to farmsteads of feudal origin — millennia of agricultural ingenuity written on the mountains. UNESCO inscribed the cultural landscape in 2011.
