One of the oldest bullrings in Spain, this arena in the cliff-top town of Ronda was completed in 1785 and is celebrated as a cradle of modern bullfighting on foot. Its wide sandy ring is encircled by a double tier of stone arcades supporting a Tuscan-columned gallery, an unusually elegant and monumental design. Rarely used for fights today, it houses a museum of the sport and of the Romero dynasty of matadors linked to the town. The adjoining terraces offer views over the surrounding countryside and the famous gorge.
