This church near the Arno in western Florence was founded by a religious order connected with the wool trade that helped make the city wealthy. Behind a baroque facade it preserves important Renaissance frescoes, including a Saint Augustine by Botticelli and a Saint Jerome by Ghirlandaio set facing each other across the nave. The painter Botticelli was buried in the church, and members of the family said to have inspired his celebrated portraits worshipped here. The adjoining refectory holds a large fresco of the Last Supper by Ghirlandaio.
