The Rheinauhafen is a redeveloped harbour peninsula stretching along the Rhine south of Cologne's old town. Once a working inland port dating from the late nineteenth century, it has been transformed into a mixed district of offices, apartments, and cultural venues. Its most recognisable landmarks are three glass towers shaped like inverted cranes, known as the Kranhäuser, that recall the harbour's industrial past. Restored brick warehouses now hold a chocolate museum and a sport museum along the historic quays.
