The Frauenkirche, formally the Cathedral of Our Lady, is the seat of the Archbishop of Munich and a defining feature of the city's skyline. Built of red brick in a late Gothic style during the fifteenth century, its twin towers are capped with distinctive green onion domes added later. City regulations long limited new buildings from rising above the towers, preserving their dominance over the old town. Inside, a legend surrounds a dark footprint in the floor known as the Devil's Step, and the church holds the tomb of Louis the Bavarian.
