Place Masséna

This grand central square in Nice is paved in a bold pattern of light and dark stone and framed by uniform red-ochre buildings with arcaded ground floors. At its centre a fountain crowned by a figure of the sun god anchors the space, while slender poles support glowing seated statues that light up after dark. Redesigned to give priority to pedestrians and trams, it links the old town with the modern city and the seafront gardens. Its rhythmic architecture and lively atmosphere make it the true crossroads of Nice.
