This large Gothic hall church near the city's main station is notable for its five naves of almost equal height, supported on slender columns that create an unusually open and airy interior. Built and extended over several centuries on marshy ground, it required deep foundations to remain stable. Its dark stone exterior and tall windows reflect the northern Flemish Gothic tradition. Long a parish serving travellers and merchants, it stands as one of the finest medieval churches in Lille.
