Rising over a hundred metres, this reinforced-concrete belfry attached to the town hall is one of the tallest in the region and part of a group of northern belfries recognised for their heritage value. Built in the early twentieth century in a bold reinterpretation of Flemish tradition, it is guarded at its base by carved figures of two legendary city giants. A lift and a final staircase bring visitors to a viewing platform over the rooftops of Lille and, on clear days, the surrounding plain. Its slender form dominates the southern skyline.
